- Wirral Grammar School for Boys was founded in 1931 and is one of few remaining state grammars in England.
- Harold Wilson, who twice served as prime minister, was a sixth-former and showed his early leadership prowess by becoming the school’s first head boy, in 1934. He also established a debating society during his time here, overseeing spirited discussions on topics ranging from Marxism to fascism.
- The Millionaire Reader Club is part of an Accelerated Reader initiative to encourage students to dive headlong into books. Those who read more than a million words are rewarded with incentives such as “beat the lunch queue”.
- The school is celebrated for its rugby tradition, and teams tour and compete internationally, including in Australia and the US. The former England and Saracens player Matt Cairns was a pupil here. Other sports include hockey, cricket and athletics.
