“Leaders have created a school community with a shared aim of being ‘men and women for others’. Pupils regularly undertake charitable work, including fundraising events ... Pupils take pride in collecting house points for their conduct, including for making a positive contribution to the school community. Leaders are ambitious for pupils to have an enriching experience at the school. Pupils make good use of the broad array of opportunities that leaders organise ... Pupil representatives identify changes to improve the school, such as protecting the environment by installing recycling points and lights on timers.”

*Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgment in inspections of state-funded schools. A five-point grading scale, including a new “exceptional” grade was introduced in November 2025.

About the school

This Catholic boys’ comprehensive was founded in 1892. Today it has a specialist Saturday music school, offering tuition for all ages to learn an instrument.
The school places great emphasis on extracurricular involvement. All pupils are encouraged to participate in at least two activities — and most do. There is a full range of sports, music and drama, plus faith-based activities and subject extensions.
Students who show a particular aptitude in one or more academic subjects can join the More Able programme to help them reach their potential.
The actor Tom Holland and Sir Anthony Leggett, winner of the 2003 Nobel prize in physics, went to Wimbledon College.
