About the school

One of Britain’s oldest state schools, founded by Edward Wilson in 1615 in Camberwell, the grammar school moved to its present location, on the site of the former Croydon airport, in 1975 and became an academy in 2011.
The school’s motto is Non sibi sed omnibus (“Not for oneself, but for all”), reflecting its values of community, kindness and contributing to society.
Pupils are allocated to one of six houses that provide pastoral care and mentoring, and compete against each other in academic and sporting competitions.
Alumni include the actor Michael Caine, the fashion designer John Galliano and the designer and artist Pascal Anson, whose work has included livery for 12 British Airways jets.
It was the Sunday Times Secondary School of the Year 2024 and the Sunday Times London State Secondary School of the Decade 2021.
