- The boys’ school was established in 1852 by Queen Victoria as a public school of English character on the French-speaking island.
- It survived the disruption caused by the German occupation of the Channel Islands during the Second World War and now has nearly 1,000 pupils on its campus in the heart of St Hellier.
- Its motto is Amat victoria curam (“Victory loves preparation”).
- All Year 7s learn an orchestral instrument as part of a co-curricular programme that includes archery, scuba diving, surfing and golf.
- Sport is a particular strength at Victoria College, and students regularly represent the island in football, rugby, cricket and shooting (the school has its own shooting range).
