What the school inspection says

“Pupils enjoy coming to school and have positive attitudes to learning. The school has recently raised its expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Most pupils live up to these. The school encourages pupils to treat others with respect and appreciate difference. It offers pupils a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. Some enjoy performing in the school musical, or in ‘Bands Night’. Others participate in clubs, such as robotics, gardening or chess. Pupils follow a broad and ambitious curriculum. A high proportion of key stage 4 pupils achieve the English Baccalaureate. The school has planned carefully what pupils should learn and when.”

*Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgment in inspections of state-funded schools. A five-point grading scale, including a new “exceptional” grade was introduced in November 2025.

About the school

In addition to focusing on academic achievement, with a dedicated Oxbridge tutor to help students who are thinking of applying, students have access to plenty of opportunities beyond the curriculum. These include arts, music, dance, drama, gardening, DJ clubs, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and sports, from badminton to boxing.
A number of music scholarships are available for students in Year 7, with successful applicants receiving the free loan of an instrument and free music tuition for one year. This is renewable annually depending on the student's progress.
Student leadership is a focus, with pupils taking on roles such as prefects and anti-bullying ambassadors.
