- When the school opened in 1905 it was with one teacher and 19 girls. It moved to its present site in 1913 to meet growing demand. Boys were admitted to the sixth form in 2002.
- Sixth-form pupils study the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma curriculum. The class of 2025 achieved an average IB Diploma score of 36.7 points, well above both the UK and global averages. However, from 2026 sixth-form pupils will study A-levels.
- Purpose-built in 2015, the IBarn is a sixth-form centre where pupils can study, socialise and eat in catering facilities.
- The school badge carries the motto “Courage and honour”.
- Extracurricular activities include sport, music and the creative arts, as well as clubs for everything from Lego robotics challenges to ukulele playing.
- Alumni include the novelist Victoria Hislop; the first British woman to climb Mount Everest and the Seven Summits, Rebecca Stephens; and Andrea Leadsom, the former Conservative politician.
