About the school

  • The Maynard, a girls’ school in Exeter established in 1658, is the only school in Devon to have been awarded the Wellbeing Award for Schools, winning in 2019 and 2023.
  • A mini-baccalaureate programme encourages girls to participate in intellectual, physical, creative and wellbeing-related activities as well as joining clubs and societies covering interests such as music and drama. The Maynard sponsors the Exeter Chiefs women's rugby team and the girls are coached by Exeter players.
  • The pastoral team is available for talks with pupils, who are also supported by therapy dogs, and the school runs online classes for parents on how best to support their daughters. The mentoring programme, Chocolate and Chat, buddies up sixth-formers with new girls.
  • Scholarships covering 10 per cent of fees are awarded in Years 7, 9 and 12 for excellence all-round and in music, sport, art or performing arts. Means-tested bursaries are worth up to 45 per cent of fees.
