- Rated outstanding by Ofsted in 2024, the school was founded by Henry VIII in 1541 as the Cathedral School. Today it still educates the approximately 50 choristers of Peterborough Cathedral, both boys and girls.
- Sixth formers regularly mentor young pupils and all students join in with a school-wide, week-long charity event that raises money for good causes.
- A wide range of activities are offered beyond the classroom — in addition to traditional school sports are basketball, table tennis and trampolining; and clubs include gardening, Stem Club, debating, chess and military history. The quality, diversity and inclusion groups are responsible for raising awareness of their respective initiatives through the leading of assemblies and organising activities that “promote a sense of joyfulness”.
- Former pupils — Old Petriburgians — include the musician Andy Bell of Erasure and David Lammy, the deputy prime minister and justice secretary.
