About the school

  • King’s is one of the seven famous cathedral schools established in 1541 by Henry VIII. Daily assemblies take place in Gloucester Cathedral’s historic spaces.
  • The school provides boy and girl choristers for the Cathedral Choir — they receive singing and music theory lessons funded by the cathedral and are required to study at least one musical instrument.
  • Students are offered a broad curriculum with a wide range of subjects, including Latin, Classical Civilisation and Greek, all the way through to A-Level.
  • Each academic year, the three houses (Laud, Serlo, and Wheeler) compete for the house trophy. Points are awarded for academic progress and uniform tidiness, and can also be earned through various competitions, including debating, hockey, cricket, music, and drama.
  • Jonathan Thomas, the former Welsh international rugby player and coach, joined the King’s rugby coaching team in September 2024.
