What the school inspection says

“Leaders have filled the school with a culture of high aspirations. They have established a strong sense of collective identity within which pupils are encouraged to be themselves. Subject leaders and teachers are subject experts. They have crafted carefully thought through curriculums. Pupils’ love of reading is fostered through a range of initiatives and by the school’s well resourced library. Pupils receive impartial careers and university advice. Over 50 clubs run each year.”

*Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgment in inspections of state-funded schools. A five-point grading scale, including a new “exceptional” grade was introduced in November 2025.

About the school

In the heart of central London, this Church of England girls’ school was founded in 1698. Boys are accepted into the sixth form.

The aim is to produce individuals who can meet the challenges of the 21st century and the school takes equal pride in its outstanding exam results and extensive extracurricular provision.

As an international school with a language specialism, the school has a global outlook and links with schools in Japan, France, Germany and Spain allow for regular exchanges.

As a Year 12 pupil at the school, Christina Adane launched the free school meals campaign, supported by the England footballer Marcus Rashford, and was named as one of the BBC 100 Women of 2020.

Ruth Langsford, the TV presenter, and Heather Wheeler, the former Conservative MP, are former pupils.
