- The Bridge Academy, a mixed academy that opened in 2007, is set over seven floors in an award-winning building by the Regent’s Canal in east London.
- It has a partnership with UBS, the financial services group, which provides funding and guidance, plus staff to support a weekly maths club for younger pupils and economics and tech workshops for sixth-formers. Year 13s can apply for the UBS-Bridge bursary to help to fund their university studies.
- The school’s values are “Hard work, integrity and kindness”, and it aspires for its students to go on to “a good university or equivalent”. In recent years about 22 per cent of leavers have attended Oxbridge or Russell Group universities.
- Pupils are placed into one of six houses. Points are awarded for achievement and there are plenty of inter-house sporting and charity events in which pupils compete to win the House Shield and annual House Cup.
- As well as a Cultural Capital Day each term, the school organises museum and gallery visits, live music and trips to Hampton Court, Kew Gardens and St Paul’s Cathedral.
- Its specialist provision for children with Send (special educational needs and/or disabilities) includes small learning groups, speech and language therapy and an adapted curriculum. Places are allocated by Hackney Education.
