- Opened in 1834 and part of the Cranmer Education Trust, the Blue Coat School is a co-ed Church of England academy that takes pupils from all over Greater Manchester and beyond from the ages of 11 to 18.
- The school, which is housed in a grade II listed building and has historic grounds, is among the biggest in the country, with over 1,600 pupils.
- Music is an important and successful part of school life. The brass band, jazz orchestra and senior choir have won prestigious national awards.
- Pupils have demonstrated increasing success in science, maths, computing and law, while the school is an official partner school of New College Oxford's Step-Up programme, designed to inspire and support state-school pupils to apply to Oxford.
- The school is one of the biggest Duke of Edinburgh providers in the northwest. All Year 9 pupils work to achieve the Bronze Award, while large numbers of pupils go on to complete Silver and Gold Awards.
- There is a wide range of clubs, from sports and robotics to coding and Harry Potter science club, and there are several trips throughout the year to places such as Belgium, London, Paris and Berlin.
