- Founded in 1708 to teach poor children “to read, write and cast accounts”, the Blue Coat School is now a mixed selective grammar with academy status situated in the Liverpool suburb of Wavertree.
- The school is known for its excellent academic results and reputation for sending pupils to Oxbridge — it is consistently named in the top three schools in the northwest of England and the top 30 in the country.
- The sixth form is the largest in the city, with 360 students who can choose from 18 A-Level courses. To broaden their studies and equip them with the skills they will need at university, all sixth formers must complete an extended project qualification — an independent research project on a topic of their choosing.
- Pastoral care is provided by a student support department, while all year groups have members of staff designated as achievement and progress leaders, who are responsible for monitoring the welfare and progress of the students.
- Extracurricular clubs include philosophy, debating and cinematography.
