- The mixed academy in the village of Tarporley, roughly halfway between Chester and Crewe, prioritises admissions for children who live in the catchment area and those who attend one of 12 partner primary schools.
- The transition to secondary school is managed with a calendar of challenge days, taster mornings and a residential trip to an adventure centre in Wales. Other travel opportunities at the school include an annual history visit to Berlin, skiing in Europe and the US, language tours of France and Spain, and volunteering adventures in Costa Rica and Zanzibar.
- Tarporley runs an enrichment programme on Wednesday afternoons. Pupils select an activity each term from a list of options covering sports, drama, music, a MasterChef-style contest, a Young Enterprise scheme and many others.
- There is a student-run magazine, Half-Term, and another, called Term, run by sixth-formers.
- The sixth-form college is rated outstanding by Ofsted and delivers a comprehensive list of A-level courses and vocational qualifications, as well as additional awards such as an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
