- Education at Tapton School is designed to be a “transformational experience”.
- The school, in southwest Sheffield, close to the Peak District National Park, encourages its pupils to value everyone, care for each other and achieve excellence. Expectations are high in all areas of life.
- The school opened in 1960 and was rebuilt in 2001 with 15 science laboratories, a music block with practice rooms, a drama studio, a gym and sports halls. A dance studio and extra classrooms were added in 2015.
- In addition to offering clubs and activities ranging from sports to music, debating to Stem interests, the school encourages the development of leadership skills through the student council, the prefect system and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
- Alumni include Lord Coe, the Olympian and president of World Athletics, the golfer Matt Fitzpatrick and three of the founding members of Def Leppard: Rick Savage, Pete Willis and Tony Kenning.
