Verdict
Good
“The school seeks to produce pupils who are confident, knowledgeable but not complacent … integrity and character lie at the heart of the school’s aims, whose motto is ‘Honour Before Honours’. Pupils focus on their learning, are respectful of each other and participate when the opportunity arises. [They] explore beyond examination specifications to extend their talents and interests. For many, sport … plays a significant role for enjoyment and at a competitive level. Pupils are self-reflective from an early age [and] have a strong sense of the importance of decision-making. [Their] social awareness is well developed [and they] have positive attitudes to learning.”

About the school

  • Talbot Heath is a Church of England girls’ school in Dorset. It was founded in 1886 by the Christian social reformer Mary Broad.
  • A three-year strategic plan centres around sustainability and the integration of artificial intelligence into learning. It operates a 1:1 iPad programme and is recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2024-27 and regional training centre.
  • Pupils are fuelled by the award-winning caterers Holroyd Howe, with seasonal ingredients sourced from Hampshire farmers and artisan food suppliers.
  • An original Second World War air-raid shelter in the grounds of the school gives students access to “living history” through former pupils’ artwork and accounts of studying and sleeping there during bombing raids.
