“Pupils are proud of their school. They appreciate the support provided by teachers and other staff. Pupils are motivated and work hard … achieve well and enjoy learning. [They] are attentive in lessons and there is a calm and orderly atmosphere around the school. Leaders and staff have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour ... Pupils told inspectors that they feel happy and safe at school … Bullying, racism and other forms of discrimination are not tolerated ... Leaders ensure that pupils benefit from a wide range of after-school clubs, enrichment opportunities and careers guidance.”

About the school

Sydenham School’s roots can be traced to 1862, but it moved to its present site on Dartmouth Road in 1917.
“Aim high” is the motto, and leadership skills are nurtured through participation in enterprises including the school council and groups such as Debate Mate and Sports Leaders.
A DJ club, coding and robotics group, trampolining, and pop choir are among the extracurricular activities on offer.
Former pupils include the actress Mia Goth (Frankenstein, Pearl), the Bafta-winning costume designer Sandy Powell (The Young Victoria, Cruella) and the 400m hurdler Tasha Danvers, who took bronze at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
