- One of the 24 independent schools that make up the Girls’ Day School Trust, Sydenham High School, founded in 1887, has been housed at Horner Grange, formerly the home of a diamond prospector, since 1934. A new entrance building and sixth form centre will open in 2026.
- Sydenham’s core values are courage and character, a curiosity for learning, culture of kindness, and generosity of spirit. The motto is Nyle ye drede — Anglo-Saxon for “fear nothing”.
- The four houses are named after the school’s founders — Shirreff, Gurney, Stanley and Grey — and host musical, dramatic and sporting competitions and events, as well as debates and a house bake-off.
- Among the school’s alumnae are the actress Margaret Lockwood and the La Roux singer Elly Jackson.
