- Founded by the Girls’ Public Day School Trust in 1887, Sydenham High School has been housed at Horner Grange, formerly the home of a diamond prospector, since 1934.
- Sydenham’s core values are courage and character, a curiosity for learning, a culture of kindness, and generosity of spirit. The motto is Nyle ye drede — Anglo-Saxon for “fear nothing”.
- The school has plans for a new entrance building and sixth-form centre, including design and technology classrooms.
- The four houses are named after the school’s founders: Shirreff, Gurney, Stanley and Grey. Inter-house competitions and events include music, drama, sports tournaments, debates and a house bake-off.
- Among the school’s alumnae are the actress Margaret Lockwood and the La Roux singer Elly Jackson.
