What the school inspection says

Date of report
2015
Verdict *
High level of capacity for sustained improvement
“The achievements and standards, provision for learning, and leadership and management of the school was found to be “very good”. “The pupils are articulate, motivated and respectful … They benefit from the many opportunities provided within lessons to discuss and debate, think critically and to develop their independence as learners. They are well prepared for the transition to the next stage of their education and adult life. The standards attained by the pupils in English and mathematics are outstanding, and very good in history.”

About the school

  • The school motto, “Lámh foisdineach an uachtar”, is Irish for "With the gentle hand foremost" and serves as a constant reminder of the virtue of gentleness in dealing with others.
  • Hockey and rugby are the most successful teams in a high-level sporting programme that includes cricket, athletics, netball, fencing, cross country, badminton, tennis and volleyball.
  • There are four choirs, several music groups, a drama society and a Christian Union, plus an active cadet contingent and the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
  • A range of trips offer academic enrichment alongside events such as Pi day, national competitions such as maths and chemistry challenges and a house quiz.
