Verdict *
Outstanding
“‘Shaping Futures’ runs through the heart of Stratford Girls’ Grammar School. This shared ethos is seen in everything pupils and staff do ... Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary ... Staff are warm and nurturing ... Debating, reading and chess clubs enhance pupils’ wider experiences. These clubs sit alongside other cultural activities, such as eco team, LGBTQ+, and Model United Nations ... Pupils are excited about their learning and benefit from the aspirational environment designed by their teachers ... There is a shared passion across governors, leaders and the wider staff to develop the school further. The overriding belief is that pupils will be the ‘leaders of tomorrow’.”

About the school

  • The school is custodian of one of Stratford’s most cherished buildings, the 15th-century Shottery Manor, rumoured to be where William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway had a betrothal ceremony.
  • Its aims include breaking gender stereotypes, enabling young women to flourish without disruption or distraction. The school disavows the existence of a glass ceiling and believes that women have more chances to succeed in society than ever before.
  • The curriculum has a global focus: Japanese is one of the modern foreign languages on offer. Pupils learn through exchange programmes with Germany, France and Spain and the school has developed links with schools in China and India.
