- The school’s nickname, Shottery, comes from the 15th-century Shottery Manor. The school was founded in 1958 in more modern buildings in the manor grounds, with the manor itself as the sixth-form centre.
- The four SGGS houses are Cygnus, Orion, Phoenix and Ursa. The Brownhill Cup and the House Shield are awarded each term to the house with most merits and house points, respectively.
- SGGS has a student exchange programme with Germany, France and Spain.
- In October 2024 the school was awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag with distinction, recognising its dedication to sustainability and environmental education. It was also recognised with an International School Award in 1987.
- Nearly 80 per cent of students regularly take part in two or more different enrichment activities at lunch or after school.
- Stratford Girls’ Grammar School was award State Secondary School of the Year in the West Midlands 2025
