- St Peter’s is one of the oldest schools in the world, established by St Paulinus in 627AD on the same site as York Minster. It moved just outside the ancient walls in 1844 to a 50-acre site on the banks of the River Ouse and remains integral to the city’s history.
- A boathouse is among the historic buildings and extensive sports facilities at the school for girls and boys aged 2-18. Boarding is available from year 7. From year 4, pupils can apply to become a York Minster chorister, a centuries-old tradition that comes with substantially subsidised school fees.
- The school embraces modernity too and believes that school days should be full of fun, adventure, challenge and new experiences. Sixth-formers can study up to five A-levels, although most start off with four in the lower sixth form and continue with three.
- Former pupils include the Gunpowder Plot conspirator Guy Fawkes, the Labour MP John Healey and the actor Greg Wise.
