- Founded in 1908 by the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus, the school has the motto Quis ut Deus (“Who is like God?”) — the literal translation of the Archangel Michael's name in Hebrew.
- The school’s purple uniform is inspired by the colour of the Michaelmas daisy.
- A new sports hall was opened in the school’s centenary year, 2008, and boys were admitted to the sixth form the following year.
- St Michael’s is part of the worldwide network of Loreto Schools, which has more than 100 members across six continents.
- Of the 2025 leavers, six students secured places at Oxford or Cambridge and 17 will study medicine, dentistry or veterinary science.
