- The Christian Brothers founded this Catholic selective secondary in 1932. Prospective pupils (those from Catholic families are prioritised) must pass a two-part entrance exam.
- Year 7s are placed into one of five houses, for which pupils earn merit points and elect house captains.
- Charity work and fundraising is an important part of school life and includes organising coffee mornings to support a local hospice and fundraising for pilgrimages to Lourdes and trips to a partner school in Sierra Leone.
- Pupils are encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme as well as join some of the many school clubs and extracurricular activities, such as the school council or taking on ambassador roles for areas including social justice, positive male leadership, careers and academics.
- A Best Next Steps week for sixth-formers starts with a careers fair attended by about 35 universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers. This is followed by a week of mock interviews, help with personal statements and guidance on other options.
