- This Catholic school’s motto is “Have faith … believe you can!” A thriving house system offers the opportunity for students to compete against each other in sport, music and drama, as well as subject-based challenges. Points are also awarded for demonstrating the school values: respect, aspiration, integrity, love and service.
- To encourage good reading habits — shown by studies to contribute to better comprehension and writing in all subjects — SJB sets reading homework for years 7-10.
- Extracurricular life has been growing steadily. There is a busy timetable ranging from music ensembles to sporting fixtures and annual shows — plus varied clubs, such as British Sign Language, Mandarin Chinese and martial arts. In 2025, sixth-formers and staff had a dance-off for a glitterball trophy in Strictly SJB.
- The school takes advantage of its proximity to London for many cultural and subject-based visits. Trips abroad have included a geography trip to Naples and a French trip to Rouen.
- Under SJB’s iPad scheme, all pupils can use technology at school and home through a monthly donation. Those who qualify for free school meals are loaned a device.
