About the school

  • The St Dunstan’s shield is plain white and features the school’s motto, Albam exorna, or “Adorn the white”. The message is that every pupil starts with a blank canvas on which to emblazon their as-yet unwritten St Dunstan’s story.
  • The school’s imposing Victorian buildings — it was founded in 1888 — provide an unexpected slice of Hogwarts in the southeast London suburb of Catford. Its 40-acre site, more than half of which is playing fields, is a rarity for an urban London school.
  • St Dunstan’s has always prided itself on its innovative attitude: awards include most progressive school in London at the Private Education Awards 2023. It stands out for its independent thinking – “promoting high achievement without arrogance,” as they put it, and championing individuality, diversity and equality.
  • It holds its own academically too, with 88 per cent of A-level students last year achieving A*-B, and a ranking of 64th in the Times independent schools league table.
