All pupils are very well educated and their achievement represents a successful fulfilment of the school’s ambitious aims ... Pupils’ positive attitudes, underpinned by their excellent rapport with teachers and their peers, enables them to take full advantage of the wide range of curricular and extracurricular opportunities ... The personal development of pupils is supported by a school ethos that is characterised by a respect and concern for others and an empathy and awareness of the needs of those who are less fortunate.” There was a regulatory compliance visit in 2019 and a routine inspection in 2023.

About the school

  • Alumnae of St Catherine’s, a girls’ day and boarding school near Guildford, include the political journalist Isabel Hardman, the neurosurgeon Carys Bannister and the Conservative peer Baroness Stroud. 
  • The school offers more than 100 clubs and societies, including yoga, dog club, print-making, a medical reading club and a young philosophers’ group.
  • Sixth-formers can participate in an essay competition and take supplemental A-level courses in subjects such as engineering, ceramics, sculpture, and Spanish and Latin American film.
  • A Babble & Biscuits club run by sixth-form pupils helps Year 7s to settle into school life, while the pastoral team supports and guides students through the challenges of teenage years. Counsellors and a psychologist are on hand.
  • Scholarships are available for students who excel in academia, drama, art and sports. A means-tested bursary covers up to 100 per cent of fees, plus essentials.
