Verdict
Excellent
“The school seeks to provide an education … that is an exciting journey of discovery for each individual, opening doors to a world of possibilities and enabling them, through their own endeavour, to achieve beyond the bounds of expectation. Pupils demonstrate excellent levels of knowledge, skills and understanding across different areas of their learning. Pupils feel safe and supported and are therefore confident to take risks with their learning and do not see getting something wrong as failure. Pupils’ highly positive attitude to learning demonstrate their drive and determination. [They] are highly articulate, share their ideas willingly and listen respectfully to each other. The moral development and understanding of pupils are excellent… [and they] demonstrate excellent levels of realistic self-awareness.”

About the school

  • Shrewsbury High School was founded in 1885 and built into Shrewsbury’s historic town halls. It is Shropshire’s only all-through, all-girls’ school.
  • Not only do more girls take maths and technology subjects here than those at the school’s co-ed counterparts, but Shrewsbury High also offers the GDST Space Technology Diploma, an advanced, A-level computer science curriculum extension designed to upskill students for careers in the space industry.
  • Timetabled every Wednesday, the award-nominated Period X life skills sessions cover everything from basic car maintenance and DIY to interview preparation, personal finance, gardening and yoga.
  • “An evening with…” is a series of lectures by inspirational women. Speakers have included the broadcasters Clare Balding and Louise Minchin, and Gogglebox’s Rev Kate Bottley.
