About the school

  • Shiplake College, near Henley-on-Thames, was founded in 1959 and educates about 540 day and boarding pupils aged 11-18. Recently it became fully co-ed.
  • The Shiplake Seven is the school’s teaching and learning framework, striving to nurture important characteristics — such as “curious, determined and independent” — inside and outside the classroom, on the school’s 45-acre campus.
  • Rowing is a prominent school sport, and pupils in the Shiplake College Boat Club have won medals at the Henley Royal Regatta and the National Schools’ Regatta.
  • The rugby player Chris Cracknell and the Soho House founder Nick Jones are among the alumni.
  • Shiplake opened an innovative learning facility, the Thinking Space, in 2014. Taking its inspiration from forward-thinking companies such as Google, it features a boardroom for mini lectures and teamwork, a book nook and a “flow room”, all designed to encourage creativity, collaboration and independence.
