- Founded for 39 girls in 1878, Sheffield Girls’ GDST now has some 1,000 pupils aged 4-18 coming from a wide geographical area that covers South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and north Nottinghamshire, and from a rich cultural and social mix.
- One of the 24 independent school members of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), Sheffield Girls’ was named both the Sunday Times Independent School of the year in the North and the UK Prep School of the Year in 2023.
- Small classes of 15 to 20 students — and eight in the sixth form — enable the school to understand each pupil’s ability and needs to better support their wellbeing and development.
- Scholarships can be awarded to year 7 girls for outstanding academic achievement, music and sport, while honorary subject scholarships are given to sixth-form girls who wish to pursue further studies in that area. The GDST operates its own bursary scheme for which those hoping to attend Sheffield Girls’ are able to apply.
- Former pupils include the UK’s first female diplomat Lady (Cicely) Mayhew and the novelist AS Byatt.
