“The school aims to provide its cosmopolitan pupil body with an ambitious, liberal education, characterised by variety and individuality … Pupils’ achievement in a wide range of curricular and co-curricular aspects is outstanding ... [They] develop high aspirations and engage strongly in their learning, showing initiative and independence in following their own intellectual interests. They demonstrate sophisticated study skills for their age … Pupils show resilience and self-discipline, are self-confident and aware, and develop a strong understanding of how to improve their own learning and performance. Pupils show maturity and self-understanding in their approach to life and when making informed choices ... Pupils, including boarders, enjoy and hugely appreciate the cohesive school community and they contribute very positively to the lives of others.” There was a regulatory compliance visit in 2022.

About the school

  • Sevenoaks School in Kent works closely with the community: students are involved in 30 service groups and contribute more than 1,000 hours a week with the help of local organisations. 
  • There are more than 200 teams competing in 24 sports at the school, and the sports performance programme provides access to the latest strength and conditioning, psychology, nutrition and physiotherapy support. 
  • Pupils can get involved in all aspects of drama — from performing to set design, front of house to sound and lighting — while the music department provides 700 lessons a week and 50 concerts a year. 
  • Sevenoaks School is involved in Harvard University’s Human Flourishing Program to improve wellbeing through knowledge. In addition to running a small-group tutor system, the school has trained 65 teachers as mental health first-aiders and has on-site counsellors.
  • All awards are means-tested. More than 80 students receive help to pay fees and some qualify for extra support to cover uniform costs, trips and other expenses. The school also works with 6,000 primary school children via the Sevenoaks Partnership of Primary Schools.
