About the school

  • The school’s motto is Ut prosim (That I may serve), and it works with a number of organisations to provide service in the community and has a partnership with the local town council supporting community initiatives. Ryde is a member of Round Square, an international network of schools that shares the same guiding principles: internationalism, democracy, environmentalism, adventure and service.
  • The school’s location next to the coast has made it one of the UK’s premier schools for recreational and competitive sailing. In addition to the academic, creative arts and sporting programmes, there is a thriving Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
  • There is a strong pastoral team and dedicated lessons focusing on personal development, plus a wellbeing centre, counselling rooms and calm spaces for pupils to retreat to if needed. A qualified school nurse is on site with another on duty for boarding pupils. Sixth-form pupils receive training in coaching skills so that they can lead and support younger children
  • There are scholarships (sports, sailing, music and the performing arts) for entry into Years 7, 9 and sixth form, allowing families to apply for means-tested bursaries.
