- Roundwood Park School opened in 1956 as a non-selective secondary school, expanding in the 1970s. At its last Ofsted inspection in 2023 it was rated outstanding.
- Alongside traditional A-level subjects, the school offers BTecs in business, health and social care, and information technology. It is a member of the Harpenden Schools Consortium, a collaboration that “exists to maximise the subject offering available to all students who study in Harpenden”. As part of this, pupils can also study at partner schools for A-levels in Chinese, German and politics, as well as a sport and physical activity Cambridge Technical qualification, and performing arts BTec foundation and national diplomas.
- There are numerous day trips to theatres, museums and art galleries such as Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire or the National Space Centre. Residential trips take place at home and abroad, such as Geneva to see the CERN particle accelerator; Berlin, to visit the Berlin Wall and the Holocaust Memorial or to Iceland for insight into the country’s geography and economy.
- Notable alumni include the comedian Rhys James and former Blue Peter presenter Richie Driss.
