“Pupils are proud of their school. They reflect the school’s ethos in the way they talk about expectations, celebration, and traditions. The school has high expectations of pupils. The published outcomes across the curriculum are very positive. The school plans a broad array of enrichment activities. It makes sure these engage all pupils. Staff seek feedback from pupils to ensure there is something for everyone … In lessons, pupils focus actively on their learning. At social times, pupils interact well. Recent changes to the way pupils’ behaviour is managed have sharpened expectations.”

About the school

The school, built in 1957 and an academy since 2012, is named after Ralph Allen, the mine owner and philanthropist behind much of the building of Georgian Bath and the early development of the Post Office.
The coeducational school in the village of Combe Down aims to provide students with the very best opportunities through a commitment to respect, teamwork and pursuing their personal best.
In 2024, 70 per cent of A-level grades were A*-B, opening doors to universities including Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London.
Lego robotics, creative writing, dance and jazz ensemble are just a few of the broad array of extracurricular activities offered at the school.
Alumni include the Liberal Democrat MP for Chippenham in Wiltshire, Sarah Gibson.
