- Established in 1869 as the Educational Home for the Daughters of Wesleyan Ministers, the school reopened as Queenswood in 1894, inspired by John Ruskin’s “Of Queens’ Gardens” lecture on the education and role of women.
- More than half the girls at the school are full-time or flexi-boarders, with boarding packages starting from a one-night basis.
- The 2024 A-Level cohort celebrated 100 per cent of their grades being awarded A* to B in English Literature, geography, Oriental languages (Japanese and Chinese), drama, computer science, Spanish, further maths, and music.
- Queenswood notable alumni include the actress Helen McCrory, Dame Alison Fettes Richard, the former vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and Carol Thatcher.
- In November 2024 the school’s application to serve alcohol to its sixth-formers at social events was knocked back by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.
