What the school inspection says

Date of report
2021
Verdict *
Good
“Pupils enjoy learning and achieve well. They feel safe, behave sensibly and are well supported by their teachers. Being kind is central to the school’s culture. … The curriculum is ambitious for all. Teachers encourage pupils to work hard to achieve their aspirations. ... This means that pupils develop a deep understanding of the subjects studied. Pupils read widely and enjoy learning the wide range of subjects on offer. Science subjects are particularly popular with pupils. Pupils’ wider development is promoted well. Leaders and staff seek to nurture pupils’ self-belief and confidence. Pupils take part in a wide range of opportunities and responsibilities beyond the classroom.”

About the school

  • Superb academic performance is only half the “QE experience”: great emphasis is placed on what goes on beyond the classroom. A diverse and extensive programme is carefully tailored to all year groups and overseen by senior staff — incorporating trips and visits, academic symposia with leading girls’ schools, conferences, lectures by distinguished guest speakers and special events, such as the annual TEDx conference.
  • There are about 90 clubs and activities, ranging from 3D printing to zoology. Music is a big part of school life, with 24 regularly rehearsing ensembles and about 150 boys singing in the choir. There is a full competitive sport programme (rugby, cricket, water polo, athletics, Eton fives) alongside recreational games. Pupils also take part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival and annual school play, language exchanges to France and Germany and regular trips in the UK and abroad.
  • Support with educational costs is on a case-by-case basis. Bursary prizes are given for commitment and excellence.
