- “Outstanding eagerness to promote good learning” has been the aim since 1599 at this coeducational school in Hexham, Northumberland. New buildings on the grade II listed site opened in 2021, providing open learning spaces and modern sports facilities, which are shared with the community.
- Rowing is a strong suit at QEHS. The school shares a boathouse on the River Tyne with Hexham Rowing Club and crews compete in regattas across the country.
- Clubs and activities range from knitting and crafts to robotics, Latin and a race club which designs and builds a car for an international tournament. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is offered at bronze and silver levels.
- Arlo the cocker spaniel lends emotional support to anxious pupils. In 2024 QEHS won a silver award from the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools.
