- This selective school was founded in 1874 with the motto, Non scholae sed vitae discimus — “For life, not school, we learn”.
- The school marked its 150th anniversary in 2024 with a series of celebrations and set up the 150 Foundation to fund an annual bursary of between £500 and £1,000 for a sixth-former to spend on a laptop, textbooks or travel to university open days and interviews.
- There are more than 200 students in the coeducational sixth form.
- Hear Me Out is the school magazine, produced by students and published twice a year, featuring articles and artwork.
- Via its core PE programme, PHSG hopes that pupils will “develop a lifelong passion for physical activity in a broad range of activities”. It also offers a range of sports clubs, including climbing, netball and trampolining. Other clubs and societies include the Earth Alliance, a climate awareness group.
