“The school aims to ensure that each pupil builds intellectual curiosity, independence, confidence and emotional resilience, striving for the highest personal standards through challenge and opportunity ... Pupils demonstrate exemplary attitudes to learning and respond to academic challenges with purpose and commitment. They listen carefully and articulate challenging concepts with confidence, achieving highly in a wide range of academic and other areas. Their social skills are outstanding, and they actively participate in their school community and demonstrate commitment to social outreach.” There was a short visit in 2023 and a routine inspection in 2024.

About the school

  • The core values at Nottingham High School are excellence, individuality, curiosity, empathy and respect. The school was named Co-Educational Independent School of the Year by Tatler in 2022.
  • Wide-ranging extracurricular activities include the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, Young Enterprise and cadets, as well as water polo, rock climbing, coding and esports. 
  • Students have recently competed for Great Britain in the International Physics Olympiad, represented England in U19 rugby and sung in the National Youth Choir.
  • The new wellbeing centre includes nature-themed spaces for pupils to take a “time out” in a quiet space, as well as a spirituality area and counselling service.
  • Means-tested bursaries are available, covering up to 105 per cent of fees and including uniform and travel costs. There are also music and academic scholarships.
