- NLCS is the UK’s oldest academic girls’ school — built on ambition, innovation and a fearless spirit. There are now outposts in Dubai, Singapore and South Korea.
- It is aiming to be a leading eco-school and has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Sustainable changes are in evidence: beef and lamb are off the menu and the school has installed mammal-print tunnels to assess local biodiversity, as well as hedgehog houses and bat boxes.
- The school was the first in the world to perform Six: Teen Edition, a new version of the hit West End musical about the six wives of Henry VIII.
- Opportunities for leadership, travel, public speaking, performance, creative expression, sports, and outdoor activities abound, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, choirs and orchestras, surfing, scuba diving and skiing. Clubs and societies range from philosophy to climate change, human rights to chess, and dance to literature, and every student participates in charity work.
- Means-tested bursaries are available at ages 11 and 16, and cover up to 100 per cent of school fees. Music scholarships are annual awards worth the equivalent of individual music lessons.
- Former pupils include the fashion editor Anna Wintour, the psychologist Tanya Byron, the actress Rachel Weisz and the engineer Roma Agrawal.
