Verdict
Outstanding
“The school aims to provide education which nurtures, celebrates, challenges and inspires each pupil… [to] succeed in a changing world. Pupils across the whole school achieve a good standard in their work. [They] show a good range of study skills… as [they] move up through the school, they became increasingly confident independent learners who can analyse, hypothesise and synthesise well. Pupils develop a range of useful skills through the activities programme provided by the school within the timetabled day. Individuals and teams achieve success in a range of areas. Pupils’ self-understanding is very strong… [and they] learn to make decisions from an early age both inside and outside the classroom” (Ofsted). There was an ISI regulatory compliance visit in 2022.

About the school

  • Every year the sixth-form college yields many high-achieving students who are presented with prestigious CIFE Awards at the House of Lords.
  • Positive feedback from one pupil, who gained three A grades at A-level, states: “The weekly timed assignment system was a great way to ensure every topic of my courses was reviewed. I found that it helped me to improve my knowledge and highlight areas of weakness which I could address with my subject tutor.”
  • A maximum of nine students are in each term-time class, with a strong emphasis on examination technique.
  • MPW Birmingham is proud of its debating team, which participates in regional competitions, including against the Oxford schools.
  • Students are fully supported with university applications. This includes undergoing numerous mock interviews for particular degree courses.
