Pupils across all phases of the school make good progress. Their attainment is good overall, and particularly strong in studies linked to sport. Pupils show good skills, knowledge and understanding across a range of subjects and in their extracurricular activities. They are well supported by staff who understand their needs and ensure their learning is effectively planned. Pupils develop high levels of self-confidence and resilience through leaders’ successful promotion of the school values and the many opportunities provided within and outside of the classroom for personal challenge. About the school

  • The co-educational day and boarding school is set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It is renowned for using the surrounding landscape for its outdoor pursuits.
  • The school is a good choice for students with an ambition to swim at a professional level. Its swimming club has so far yielded 115 international swimmers, with an impressive tally of eight Olympic and 16 Commonwealth medals. Students between the ages of 8 and 18 train in the 50m Olympic Legacy pool, opened in 2016. Swimming scholarships are also available.
  • Since September 2024, the school has extended its Girls’ Performance Football programme to include an U16 team. It will run in association with the Chelsea FC Foundation and will add to the school’s existing female squad of students in Year 12 and above. 
  • A range of subjects are covered for BTEC qualifications, including applied science and performing arts.
  • Mount Kelly has a roll call of famous alumni in the sports field, such as the triathlete Flora Duffy, a gold medal winner at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
