- As one of the country’s first academies, Mossbourne broke the mould when it opened in 2004 in Hackney, east London, a borough held back by its educational underachievement.
- Upholding values of excellence, no excuses and unity, the school’s uncompromising approach has yielded results: now it is a model for high-achieving inner-city schools.
- Music is the school’s specialism. Subsidised lessons in a musical instrument allow all students to use the fine facilities including recording studios and practice rooms and take part in performances with bands, choirs and ensembles.
- The school is also noted for rowing. Its free rowing academy programme is open to Year 9-13 students and crews have had success in national and world championships.
- The successful sixth form has launched many students into competitive university courses at Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group and international universities. The school also helps to create opportunities through medical and architecture bursary programmes.
