- The coeducational grammar — known as Methody — opened in 1868 and has evolved into Northern Ireland’s largest school, with more than 2,000 pupils. Made to Lead is the school’s programme to help pupils thrive and succeed.
- The diverse school community sharing the 15-acre city campus is made up of 12 ethnic groups with 20 sets of religious beliefs and 54 home languages.
- Sixty subjects are offered in the sixth form, plus optional enrichment classes such as Arabic, Mandarin and philosophy. Each year more than 90 per cent of students go on to higher education, including more than 100 to Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
- Seven of the school’s girl choristers, who sang at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in May 2023, were awarded Coronation medals in 2024. The school also has orchestras, a big band, a swing band and an Irish traditional music group.
- Methody’s rowers made history in 2024 by becoming the first in Northern Ireland to win the Irish Schools’ Cup, seeing off 51 rival crews at the national regatta in Limerick.
