- Meadowhead School was formed following the mergers of two schools in 1987 and is now an academy, educating almost 2,000 girls and boys aged 11 to 18. It is the largest school in Sheffield. In 2022, Ofsted judged it to be a “good” school.
- The size of the school, says the headteacher Kam Grewal-Joy, is to its benefit, meaning that pupils from beyond Meadowhead’s seven feeder primary schools have the opportunity to apply to join.
- The school houses are named after key figures who have a connection to Sheffield: the astronaut Helen Sharman, the Holocaust educator Sue Pearson, the inventor Harry Brearley and the abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
- In 2018, a £2.4-million sixth-form extension opened. A range of A-levels, including philosophy and product design, are offered as options in addition to a number of BTecs.
