- Based in the heart of Oxford since 1480, Magdalen College School educates boys aged 7-18 and accepts girls into the sixth form.
- About one in ten pupils receive a school bursary, covering from 10 per cent of fees to the full cost. In 2024 the school won an award for social mobility in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards. High-achieving year 5 pupils in the city can be nominated by their primary school to join its academic enrichment programme, The Bridge.
- Former pupils are known as Old Waynfletes, after the school’s founder, William Waynflete. They include historical figures such as Cardinal Wolsey and Sir Thomas More, two Nobel laureates (the scientists Sir Tim Hunt and Kenneth G Wilson), the film director Sam Mendes and the sports presenter Jim Rosenthal.
