- Set in a historic Georgian building on Highgate Road, the school has its roots in the La Sainte Union des Sacrés Coeurs order and was originally founded by French nuns in 1861. Despite its city setting, La Sainte Union has its own orchard and wildflower meadows in its expansive grounds and is surrounded by the wild beauty of Hampstead Heath.
- “Bright women. Bright futures” is the mission statement of the school, which is described as “an exceptional Catholic 11-18 girls’ school”. The mixed sixth form is part of the LaSwap Consortium, and its offering includes A-Levels, vocational courses and the Extended Project Qualification. Many students secure places at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.
- Pupils can compete for the Atherton Award, created by the British investor Amber Atherton in 2021. The Dragons’ Den-style initiative helps girls to develop their entrepreneurial skills with the chance to win prize money and strengthen their chances of Oxbridge or Ivy League University acceptance.
- The award-winning actress Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Harry Potter) and the respected space scientist, broadcaster and author Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock are two notable former students. Aderin-Pocock works with educational institutions to promote the study of Stem subjects.
