- “Camp Hill Boys” was founded in 1883 and in 1958 moved to Kings Heath, south of Birmingham city centre, together with the girls’ school of the same name . The two schools share some facilities.
- The school motto is Spartam nactus es, hanc exorna (“You have reached Sparta, now adorn her”), alongside the more prosaic “Educational excellence for our city”.
- Since 2020, the school has increased admissions of students who qualify for pupil premium (currently 30 per cent) and imposed tighter catchment areas.
- It is part of the King Edward VI Academy Trust which comprises six grammar and six comprehensive academies serving some of the most disadvantaged areas of Birmingham.
- Camp Hill old boys include the National Lottery “voice of the balls” Alan Dedicoat.
- King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys was named West Midlands State Secondary School of the Decade 2021
