- Situated in Dore in the southwest of Sheffield, King Ecgbert School is a co-ed state secondary with 1,500 pupils, including a 380-strong sixth form.
- Arts facilities include a state-of-the-art music suite and a high-tech recording studio. More than 50 teams play 13 different sports across a 4G astroturf pitch, tennis courts, playing fields and sports halls, one of which is named after famous alumna, the Olympic gold medallist Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill. The England cricketer Joe Root is also a former student. The school’s location close to the Peak District means pupils benefit from outdoor activities such as climbing, abseiling, cycling and water-skiing.
- Pupils are encouraged to develop leadership qualities and explore ways of “giving back” to their school and the wider community. The sixth-form committee, chaired by head students and their deputies, organises a range of events including sports matches and charity events.
- The school has established an Integrated Resource (IR) for autism, offering places for 30 pupils who are supported to learn in mainstream lessons with specialist assistance. Beyond the classroom, these children also take part in sports, art and school performances, reinforcing the school’s belief that “if we get it right for our most vulnerable, then we’ll be getting it right for everyone”.
- A 16-19 Bursary Fund helps 16 to 19-year-olds continue in education, where they may otherwise struggle for financial reasons.
