- The school takes its name from Reading cloth merchant John Kendrick, whose bequest on his death in 1624 provided an educational fund.
- The Kendrick fund was used to establish both boys’ and girls’ schools in the 1870s; the former merged with Reading School in 1915.
- Its motto is “Lead, inspire, make a difference”.
- The three school houses are Cedars, Palmer and Sidmouth. Inter-house contests include reading, poetry, chess and even joke competitions.
- Notable women educated at Kendrick include the artist Beryl Cook and the lingerie entrepreneur Janet Reger.
