“This school believes in opportunity and achievement for all. It is highly effective in achieving this aim. Pupils benefit from an expansive choice of courses that prepare them well for their future careers and aspirations. The school has high expectations for all pupils. There is an inclusive ethos at the school that supports and challenges pupils to achieve their best. Pupils study a well-constructed curriculum and are taught by well trained teachers.”

*Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgment in inspections of state-funded schools. A five-point grading scale, including a new “exceptional” grade was introduced in November 2025.

About the school

Horsforth School was established in 1972 and today believes that “opportunity and achievement [are] for all”; its values-driven curriculum has this at its heart. In 2023, it was rated “Good” by Ofsted.
Pupils represent the student voice via the school parliament and through six key areas — respect, wellbeing, participation, aspiration, resilience and responsibility. The former allows young people to influence school life, and to learn and understand more about the British political system.
In addition to studying more traditional A-level subjects, sixth formers can pursue a Mandarin Chinese proficiency assessment, a level 3 diploma in criminology or an Extended Project Qualification.
In 2025, 38 per cent of A-level grades awarded to pupils were A*-A. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, the school achieved the highest state school A-level results in Leeds.
